After the civil war ended 6 years ago, and for the first time since 1992, Angola will go to the polls. On 5th September 2008, there will be parliamentary elections, contested by 14 parties and party coalitions. The upcoming parliamentary elections will not, however, have any direct impact on the distribution of wealth and power. The elections are only for a quite weak parliament in a country where power is concentrated in the presidency. The elections can nevertheless be a stepping-stone on the way.
